CHICAGO (Interstat) β€” The Boston Red Sox look to complete a three-game sweep of the Chicago White Sox on Thursday afternoon at Guaranteed Rate Field. First pitch is set for 2:10 p.m. under clear skies with a game-time temperature of 89 degrees. Boston (41-48) has won four straight overall and seven of its last nine after dropping three consecutive series to Washington and the New York Yankees. The Red Sox took the first two games of this series by a combined 11-1 margin, including an 8-1 victory Tuesday and a 3-0 shutout Wednesday. Right-hander Payton Tolle (4-6, 4.22 ERA) is scheduled to start for the Red Sox. Tolle was dominant in Tuesday’s win, allowing two hits and no runs over six innings while striking out six. He has shown dramatic inconsistency in his past five starts: a seven-inning, one-hit gem against the Yankees on June 26, followed by a six-run blowup against the Nationals on July 1. In 88 innings this season, Tolle has 92 strikeouts and 31 walks. Chicago (47-43) has lost three straight and six of its last eight after a 5-1 stretch through June 27. The White Sox are 2-4 on their current homestand. Right-hander Jordan Hicks (4-2, 2.70 ERA) is a key arm out of the bullpen. Hicks has not allowed an earned run in his past four appearances, covering 4 1/3 innings, with nine strikeouts and one hit allowed. The Interstat game simulator projects a 7-5 Boston victory. After the series finale, Boston travels to New York for three games against the Mets beginning Friday. Chicago begins a three-game homestand Friday against the Athletics.
