NEW YORK (Interstat) β The New York Mets host the Kansas City Royals on Wednesday at 7:10 p.m. at Citi Field in a matchup of last-place teams trying to build rare momentum. The Mets (38-53) and Royals (37-54) enter tied in the season series after a 9-9 deadlock Tuesday. First pitch forecast calls for 68 degrees and clouds. Kansas City is coming off a 15-1 rout of the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday, its third win in four games. Shortstop Tyler Tolbert keyed that victory with a perfect 5-for-5 performance, including a home run and two RBIs. Over his last four games, Tolbert is 9-for-10 with three extra-base hits, though he has also made two relief appearances in lopsided losses, including allowing five earned runs in one inning June 25 at Tampa Bay. For the Mets, right-hander Freddy Peralta takes the mound. He earned a win Monday at Atlanta, allowing one earned run over 4 2/3 innings with six strikeouts. Peralta has been inconsistent, posting a 5.14 ERA over his last four starts while alternating quality outings with blowups. He surrendered 10 earned runs in 2 2/3 innings June 20 at Philadelphia. Interstatβs game simulator projects a 4-3 Mets victory. UP NEXT: The teams conclude the two-game series Thursday before Kansas City heads to Baltimore and New York hosts Boston.
