CHICAGO (Interstat) — The Boston Red Sox visit the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday night at Guaranteed Rate Field, with the first-place White Sox looking to rebound from a 3-0 shutout loss to Boston in the series opener Tuesday. Chicago (47-42) holds a seven-game lead in the AL Central, while Boston (40-48) is in last place in the AL East. First pitch is set for 7:10 p.m. CDT under cloudy skies, with the temperature at 78 degrees. The Red Sox took the series opener behind a strong pitching performance, and they’ll look to build on that momentum. Boston won three straight games at Los Angeles over the weekend before the Tuesday victory, with Willson Contreras providing much of the offensive punch. The catcher has homered in three of his past four games, including a 1-for-4, three-RBI effort Sunday in a 7-5 win over the Angels. Over his last nine games, Contreras has six extra-base hits and 11 RBIs. For the White Sox, left-hander Sean Newcomb has been effective out of the bullpen. He threw 1 2/3 scoreless innings Sunday against Cleveland in a 7-6 win, striking out two. Over his past four outings, Newcomb has allowed one earned run in 9 1/3 innings with eight strikeouts and a 0.96 WHIP. Chicago had won four of five before Tuesday’s loss, including a series victory at Cleveland. The White Sox scored seven runs Sunday and put up 22 in a win over Kansas City on June 26. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 7-6 Boston victory. Chicago is a -1.5 favorite on the run line, with the over/under set at 8. The two teams meet again Thursday before Boston heads to New York for a three-game set against the Mets, and Chicago returns home to host the Athletics over the weekend.
