SEATTLE (Interstat) — The Seattle Mariners, clinging to a two-game lead in the American League West, host the Toronto Blue Jays in the second game of a three-game series Saturday afternoon at T-Mobile Park. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. PDT. The forecast calls for 72 degrees and cloudy skies. Seattle (45-43) enters with momentum after a 1-0 shutout victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Thursday. The Mariners have won four of their last five games. Toronto (41-46) comes off a 9-3 win over the New York Mets on Wednesday, snapping a four-game losing streak. The series opener Friday was suspended with the game scoreless in the second inning due to rain. The pitching matchup features two right-handers trending in opposite directions. Seattle’s Bryce Miller (6-5, 3.12 ERA) has been dominant, tossing seven scoreless innings in a 1-0 win over the Angels in his last start, allowing two hits with eight strikeouts. Over his last three starts, Miller has a 1.42 ERA and 26 strikeouts in 19 innings. Toronto counters with Patrick Corbin (5-8, 5.40 ERA), who has been erratic. Corbin earned a win against the Mets on Wednesday despite allowing three runs in five innings. However, he has surrendered at least three earned runs in each of his last five starts and has a 6.31 ERA over that span. He lasted only 3 2/3 innings in a loss to the Chicago Cubs on June 20 and allowed five runs in 4 1/3 innings in a loss to Texas on June 26. Seattle is a -1.5 run-line favorite, according to Interstat’s game simulator, which projects a 5-3 Mariners win. The over/under is 7.5 runs. The Mariners continue their homestand with the series finale Sunday before a six-game road trip to Miami and Tampa Bay. Toronto opens a three-game series at San Francisco on Monday.
