HOUSTON (Interstat) — The Tampa Bay Rays, owners of the best record in the American League, visit the Houston Astros on Saturday at Daikin Park for a 4th of July matinee. First pitch is set for 4:10 p.m. EDT under cloudy skies and 90-degree heat. Tampa Bay (51-33) has won six straight games, outscoring opponents 41-12 during that stretch. The Rays took the series opener against Houston on Friday, though the game was called scoreless after one inning due to rain and will be made up as part of a doubleheader Sunday. Left-hander Ian Seymour is scheduled to start for the Rays. Seymour is 4-0 with a 1.65 ERA over his past five outings. He threw six innings of three-hit ball Thursday at Kansas City, striking out eight in a 5-2 win. On June 25 against the Royals, Seymour carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning, finishing with 6.2 hitless frames and seven strikeouts in a 13-2 victory. Houston (43-46) counters with right-hander AJ Blubaugh, who has worked exclusively out of the bullpen this season. Blubaugh has a 1.08 ERA over his past eight appearances, striking out 19 in 15.2 innings. He last pitched Wednesday against Minnesota, allowing two hits and no runs over 2.2 innings in an 8-3 loss. The Astros have lost four of six and sit fourth in the AL West. Houston’s offense has been inconsistent, scoring two runs or fewer in three of its last five games. An Interstat projection system forecasts an 8-5 Rays victory. Tampa Bay is a -1.5 run-line favorite, and the over-under is 7. Following Saturday’s game, the teams conclude the series Sunday. The Rays then return home for a four-game set against the New York Yankees beginning Monday. The Astros travel to Washington for a three-game series against the Nationals starting Monday.
