CINCINNATI (Interstat) — The Baltimore Orioles and Cincinnati Reds, both mired at 40 wins and seeking traction in their respective divisions, meet Saturday afternoon at Great American Ball Park. First pitch is set for 4:10 p.m. EDT under cloudy skies with an expected game-time temperature of 88 degrees. Baltimore (40-48) enters having taken the opener of this three-game interleague series, a 3-0 shutout victory Friday. The Orioles have split their last 10 games and are coming off a 6-1 win over the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday, a game in which right-hander Dean Kremer (4-7, 4.02 ERA) worked six innings, allowing one earned run on four hits with four strikeouts. Kremer (6-1, 7-2) will take the mound Saturday looking to build on that performance. The Orioles have dropped five of their last seven series and sit in fourth place in the American League East, 12 games behind the division-leading New York Yankees. Cincinnati (40-46) is just a half-game ahead of Baltimore in the standings but has lost four of its last six overall. The Reds salvaged the finale of a four-game road set against Milwaukee on Thursday with a 7-2 victory, snapping a three-game skid. Rookie right-hander Chase Burns (8-2, 3.10), the National League’s Rookie of the Month for June, delivered six innings of two-run ball with four strikeouts to earn the win. Burns has won each of his last six starts, a stretch in which he has posted a 2.25 ERA with 42 strikeouts across 33 1/3 innings. Cincinnati’s offense has been inconsistent, scoring two or fewer runs in five of its last nine contests. Catcher Jose Trevino was 3-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs in Thursday’s win. Baltimore’s lineup, meanwhile, has struggled to generate consistent power. Outfielder Leody Taveras homered Wednesday and is 5-for-14 with two extra-base hits in his last four games. The Interstat game simulator projects a 4-3 final in favor of Baltimore. Sportsbooks have installed Cincinnati as a -1.5 favorite, with the over/under set at 9 runs. Following Saturday’s matchup, the two clubs conclude the series Sunday afternoon before heading into the All-Star break. Baltimore returns home to host the Chicago Cubs on Tuesday, while Cincinnati welcomes the Philadelphia Phillies for a four-game set starting Tuesday.
