SEATTLE (Interstat) — The Seattle Mariners and Toronto Blue Jays open a three-game series Friday at T-Mobile Park, with the Mariners (44-43) looking to build on a recent surge and the Blue Jays (41-46) trying to gain traction after a rough stretch. Seattle will send right-hander Bryan Woo to the mound. Woo is coming off a strong outing Tuesday against the Los Angeles Angels, allowing two earned runs over 6.1 innings in an 8-3 win. He struck out five and scattered four hits. The performance followed a dominant seven-inning shutout of Baltimore on June 18 in which he struck out nine. However, Woo has been inconsistent, surrendering seven earned runs in five innings at Baltimore on June 11 and five earned runs over 6.1 innings at Detroit on June 5. The Blue Jays will counter with left-hander Patrick Corbin. Corbin earned a win Wednesday against the New York Mets, giving up three earned runs over five innings in a 9-3 victory. The outing snapped a personal two-game losing streak. Over his previous four starts, Corbin allowed at least three earned runs each time and failed to pitch more than 4.1 innings. His longest outing of that span was 4.1 innings in a loss to Texas on June 26. Toronto enters the series having won two of its last three games, including Wednesday’s blowout of the Mets. Myles Straw provided a spark off the bench in that game, hitting a pinch-hit three-run home run. The Blue Jays, however, had lost five of their previous six games before that win. Seattle has won four of its last five games, taking two of three from the Cleveland Guardians on the road and sweeping a two-game set from the Angels at home. Colt Emerson had three hits and two RBIs in Tuesday’s win over Los Angeles. According to Interstat’s game simulator, the Mariners are projected to win 5-3. The series continues Saturday and Sunday before both teams hit the road. The Blue Jays travel to San Francisco for a two-game set starting Monday, while the Mariners head to Miami for a three-game series beginning Tuesday.
