PHOENIX (Interstat) — The Arizona Diamondbacks host the San Francisco Giants on Wednesday, July 1, at Chase Field, with both teams looking to gain traction in the National League West. Arizona (42-42) has won seven of its last eight meetings against San Francisco, including a 5-4 victory Monday. The Diamondbacks took the opener of this three-game series behind Eduardo Rodriguez, who threw seven innings of one-run ball, allowing five hits with one strikeout. Rodriguez, a player to watch Wednesday, has been dominant in June, posting a 5-0 record over his last five starts. In that span, he has allowed just seven earned runs over 29 2/3 innings, striking out 19. His only blemish came June 6 against Washington, when he gave up four earned runs in 6 1/3 innings. San Francisco (35-49) is trying to salvage the series after dropping the opener. The Giants have lost four of their last five games overall. A player to watch for San Francisco is right-hander JT Brubaker, who worked 3 1/3 innings in relief Monday, allowing one earned run on one hit. Brubaker has appeared in seven games over the past month, compiling a 2.84 ERA over 12 2/3 innings with six strikeouts. He has not allowed a run in four of his last six outings. The Giants have struggled at the plate against Arizona this season, averaging 2.4 runs per game in seven meetings. Heliot Ramos provided the only offense Monday with a solo home run. Arizona’s Geraldo Perdomo drove in three runs in the win, while Nolan Arenado added a home run and two hits. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 5-4 victory for San Francisco, and the Giants are a minus-1.5 favorite on the run line. The over/under is set at 9.5 runs. Following Wednesday’s game, San Francisco travels to Colorado for a three-game series beginning Friday. Arizona returns home to host Milwaukee for a three-game set starting Friday.
