AP Sports Preview: Giants at Diamondbacks PHOENIX (Interstat) — The San Francisco Giants, mired in last place at 35-48, visit the Arizona Diamondbacks (41-42) on Tuesday night at Chase Field in a National League West matchup. A Interstat simulation projects a 5-4 Giants victory. San Francisco sees its strongest weapon on the mound. Left-hander Robbie Ray has been dominant, winning five consecutive starts. In his most recent outing Sunday against Atlanta, Ray pitched 8 shutout innings, allowing four hits with two strikeouts in a 3-2 win. Over his last five starts, all victories, Ray has a 1.15 ERA and 23 strikeouts in 33 innings. Ray’s streak includes a 3-1 win over the Athletics on June 23 (8 IP, 2 hits, 6 K) and a 7-2 victory at Atlanta on June 16 (6.1 IP, 2 hits, 8 K). The Diamondbacks counter with Ketel Marte, who provided much of Arizona’s offense in Sunday’s 5-1 loss at Tampa Bay. Marte, serving as designated hitter, went 1-for-3 with a home run and an RBI. He has homered in three of his last four games and has driven in six runs over his past 10 contests. Arizona has lost four straight and six of seven following Sunday’s defeat. The Diamondbacks sit two games over .500 but have stumbled after a 5-2 road trip to St. Louis ended June 24. The season series favors Arizona. The Diamondbacks have won six of seven meetings, including a three-game sweep at San Francisco from May 25-27. The teams played Monday at Chase Field, a 0-0 game. San Francisco has won three of four overall, including back-to-back shutout victories over Atlanta on Saturday (5-0) and Sunday (3-2). Second baseman Luis Arraez went 2-for-3 with an RBI in Sunday’s win. Arizona’s next 10 games include hosting Milwaukee beginning Friday. San Francisco travels to Colorado for a three-game series starting Friday. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. MST.
