TORONTO (Interstat) — The New York Mets and Toronto Blue Jays close out a quick two-game interleague series Tuesday at Rogers Centre. First pitch is set for 7:07 p.m. ET. The Mets (35-48) enter having dropped five of their last six, including a 5-4 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies on Sunday and a 2-0 shutout defeat at the hands of the Blue Jays on Monday. Toronto (39-45) has lost six straight, most recently a 3-2 decision against the Texas Rangers on Sunday. Right-hander Kodai Senga (0-3, 6.39 ERA) takes the mound for New York. Senga has lost each of his last three starts, most recently allowing two earned runs on four hits over five innings in a 5-4 loss to the Phillies on June 28. He struggled two outings prior, surrendering seven earned runs in 3 2/3 innings against the Chicago Cubs. Senga has not recorded a win this season. The Blue Jays counter with right-hander Shane Bieber (1-4, 4.97 ERA). Bieber also comes off a loss, giving up two earned runs on five hits over 5 1/3 innings in a 3-2 defeat to Texas on June 28. In his previous start, he was tagged for four earned runs on nine hits in 3 2/3 innings against Houston. Monday’s head-to-head saw Toronto blank New York 2-0. The Blue Jays have won the only two meetings this season. For the Mets, outfielder A.J. Ewing provided a bright spot Sunday, going 2-for-3 with a home run and two RBIs. Reliever Cionel Pérez struck out two in a scoreless inning. For Toronto, outfielder Nathan Lukes went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs in Sunday’s loss. Reliever Jeff Hoffman worked 1 1/3 scoreless innings with two strikeouts. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 4-3 Toronto victory. The Blue Jays are a -1.5 favorite with an over/under of 7.5 runs. Following Tuesday’s finale, the Mets head to Atlanta for a four-game set beginning Friday, while the Blue Jays open a three-game series in Seattle.
