WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. (Interstat) — The Los Angeles Dodgers, owners of the best record in baseball at 54-30, open a three-game series Monday against the Athletics at Sutter Health Park. First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. PDT. The Athletics (40-44) are coming off a 4-1 loss Sunday to the Los Angeles Angels, despite two scoreless innings from reliever José Suarez. The Dodgers defeated the San Diego Padres 4-2 on Sunday, with right-hander Emmet Sheehan earning the win. Sheehan (2-4) is scheduled to start Monday. The 26-year-old has been inconsistent this season. In his last outing, he threw five innings of two-hit ball with five strikeouts. But before that, he allowed six earned runs in 3 1/3 innings against Baltimore on June 21. Overall, he has a 5.82 ERA across six starts. For the Athletics, Suarez (3-3) will work as an opener or long reliever. The left-hander has been effective recently, allowing one earned run over his last 11 innings, including two scoreless outings against the Angels. He has a 4.56 ERA in 21 appearances this season. The Dodgers enter having won four of their last five games, including a 15-3 rout of the Padres on Saturday. Their offense leads the National League in runs per game, while the pitching staff boasts a 3.42 ERA. The Athletics, meanwhile, have dropped three of four and sit fourth in the American League West. Sutter Health Park, the temporary home of the Athletics while their new Las Vegas ballpark is under construction, will host its first game between these longtime rivals since the Dodgers moved to the National League. Los Angeles is favored by 1.5 runs, according to Interstat’s game simulator, which projects a 7-4 final. The over/under is set at 9.5 total runs. The Dodgers continue the series Tuesday and Wednesday before returning home to face San Diego on Thursday. The Athletics host Miami for a three-game set beginning Friday. Notes: Dodgers third baseman Max Muncy (oblique) is expected to begin a rehab assignment this week. Athletics catcher Shea Langeliers (hand) took batting practice Sunday and could return during the series.
