BALTIMORE (Interstat) — The Chicago White Sox, winners of three of their last four, open a three-game series against the Baltimore Orioles on Monday night at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. EDT under a forecast of 78 degrees and rain. Chicago (43-39) enters the game in second place in the American League Central, a half-game ahead of Cleveland. Baltimore (39-46) sits fourth in the AL East, 10 games behind the first-place New York Yankees. Third baseman Miguel Vargas has been the catalyst for a White Sox offense that scored 28 runs in its last three games against Kansas City. Vargas went 2 for 2 with a home run and two RBIs in a 5-4 loss Sunday and is 8 for 18 with three homers and eight RBIs over his last five starts. Baltimore counters with right-hander Albert Suárez, who has been used primarily out of the bullpen this season. Suárez pitched 3 innings Sunday against Washington, allowing one run on three hits with two strikeouts in a 6-4 loss. In six appearances this month, Suárez has a 4.50 ERA across 16 innings. The Orioles swept a three-game series at Chicago in early April, outscoring the White Sox 11-6. Baltimore has lost five of its last six games overall. The White Sox placed left-hander Garrett Crochet on the 15-day injured list Saturday with left shoulder inflammation. Chicago has not announced a starting pitcher for Monday. Baltimore has not named a starter either, though the Orioles are expected to use a bullpen game after Suárez’s recent workload. Chicago’s offense has been inconsistent away from home, posting a 19-22 record on the road. Baltimore is 21-21 at Camden Yards. The White Sox optioned infielder Braden Shewmake to Triple-A Charlotte on Sunday and recalled infielder Erik González. Baltimore reinstated outfielder Cedric Mullins from the paternity list Sunday. Interstat projects a 6-5 win for Chicago. The Orioles are minus-1.5 run favorites, and the over/under is 9. The series continues Tuesday and Wednesday before both teams hit the road for the July 4 weekend. Chicago travels to Cleveland for four games starting Thursday, while Baltimore opens a three-game series at Cincinnati on Friday.
