AP Sports Preview CLEVELAND (Interstat) — The Seattle Mariners and Cleveland Guardians will meet Sunday at Progressive Field in the decisive game of a three-game series, with the first pitch scheduled for 1:40 p.m. The forecast calls for 76 degrees and partly cloudy skies. Seattle (42-41) enters the finale having split the first two games. The Guardians (42-40) evened the series Saturday with a 3-0 victory. Sunday’s matchup promises a compelling pitching rematch from Friday’s game, which Seattle won 3-1. Right-hander Luis Castillo will start for the Mariners. Castillo pitched six innings of four-hit ball in that Friday victory, striking out four with one earned run. The veteran righty has allowed two or fewer earned runs in four of his past five starts, though he has gone 2-3 over that span. His season ERA sits at 3.58. Cleveland counters with left-hander Joey Cantillo, who also started Friday and took the loss despite an impressive outing. Cantillo worked six innings, allowing two hits and one earned run while striking out nine. The 25-year-old has been inconsistent: He threw eight scoreless innings against Houston on June 20 but surrendered seven earned runs in five innings at Texas on June 7. Cantillo’s season ERA is 3.69. The series has been tightly contested. After Seattle took the opener Friday, the Guardians bounced back Saturday behind a strong start from Tanner Bibee. Seattle’s offense went quiet Saturday after producing three runs Friday, when Andrés Muñoz and Gabe Speier combined for two scoreless innings of relief. Both teams return home after this series. Seattle hosts the Los Angeles Angels on Monday for a three-game set. Cleveland stays home to open a three-game series against Texas. The Interstat game simulator projects a 5-3 Seattle victory. The Mariners enter as -1.5 run favorites, with the over/under set at 8. Castillo will look to replicate his Friday success and give Seattle a series win. Cantillo aims to avenge that loss and push the Guardians over .500.
