AP Sports Preview ST. LOUIS (Interstat) — Max Meyer looks to extend his personal winning streak to six starts Sunday when the Miami Marlins face the St. Louis Cardinals at Busch Stadium III. The forecast calls for 80-degree temperatures with rain likely at game time. Miami (43-39) enters the series finale having won four consecutive games, including consecutive shutout victories over the Cardinals on Friday and Saturday. The Marlins have outscored St. Louis 8-0 in the first two games of the series. Meyer, a right-hander, pitched seven scoreless innings in Friday’s 4-0 win, allowing two hits and striking out five. He has not allowed a run in his past 13 innings. Over his last five starts, all wins, Meyer has compiled a 1.19 ERA with 33 strikeouts in 30⅓ innings. His June 20 outing against San Francisco was his only start this month in which he allowed more than two earned runs. St. Louis (42-37) will counter with right-hander Michael McGreevy, who also started Friday’s game. He took the loss despite allowing no earned runs over six innings, scattering five hits and striking out four. McGreevy has lost four of his past five decisions. In his last three starts, he has allowed seven earned runs in 17 innings, with opponents batting .301 against him. The Cardinals have dropped four of their past six games. They have scored two runs or fewer in four of their past seven contests. Miami has won three of four meetings this season against St. Louis, including two by shutout. The Marlins are 7-3 in their past 10 games overall. St. Louis is 3-6 in its past nine. Marlins relievers Michael Petersen and Calvin Faucher combined for two scoreless innings Friday, with Faucher striking out one in a perfect ninth. Cardinals relievers JoJo Romero and Justin Bruihl combined for 1⅓ scoreless innings Friday. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 6-4 Miami victory. The Marlins travel to Colorado on Monday for a four-game series. The Cardinals visit Atlanta on Tuesday to begin a three-game set.
