Cincinnati (39-42) salvaged the first two games of the series, winning 9-7 on Saturday and 6-4 on Friday. The Reds have won five of their last seven games overall and are 2-2 against Pittsburgh this season. The Pirates (41-42) have dropped five of their last six contests. Reds right-handed reliever Chase Petty has been sharp in his recent appearances. In six outings dating to June 10, Petty has allowed two earned runs over 8 2/3 innings, striking out six. He earned the win Saturday with a scoreless ninth inning, stranding a runner. Pirates infielder Brandon Lowe remains a key offensive threat. Lowe homered and drove in four runs Saturday, continuing a productive stretch in which he has three home runs and 10 RBIs over his last 13 games. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 6-5 Pittsburgh victory. The Pirates are a -1.5 run-line favorite, and the over/under is 9.5 runs. Cincinnati heads to Milwaukee on Monday to begin a four-game series before returning home for a six-game homestand against Baltimore and Philadelphia. Pittsburgh travels to Philadelphia for four games starting Monday, followed by a three-game series at Washington.
