CLEVELAND (Interstat) — The Seattle Mariners and Cleveland Guardians meet Saturday at Progressive Field, with first pitch scheduled for 6:10 p.m. under cloudy skies and 68 degrees. Seattle (41-41) arrives having dropped two of its last three games after losing 5-1 to Pittsburgh on Thursday. The Mariners sit at .500, five games behind Houston in the AL West. Cleveland (42-39) is coming off a 4-3, 10-inning victory over the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday, and stands 2 ½ games back of Minnesota in the AL Central. The pitching matchup features right-handers Bryce Miller for Seattle and Tanner Bibee for Cleveland, both looking to build off strong recent outings. Miller (4-5, 3.47 ERA) took the loss Thursday in Pittsburgh despite striking out 11 over 5 ⅔ innings, allowing five hits and three earned runs. In his previous four starts, he had allowed just three earned runs across 24 innings with a 30-3 strikeout-to-walk ratio. The 26-year-old held opponents scoreless in back-to-back starts against Detroit (6 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 9 K) and Arizona (5 IP, 1 H, 0 R, 6 K) earlier this month. Bibee (6-4, 3.18 ERA) earned the win Wednesday against Chicago, tossing six scoreless innings with three hits and three strikeouts. The 27-year-old has been sharp over his last three starts, posting a 1.93 ERA with 18 strikeouts in 18 ⅓ innings. He threw seven innings of two-run ball against Detroit on June 12 and fired eight scoreless innings at Texas on June 6. Saturday marks the second game of a four-game series between the clubs. Seattle took three of four in Cleveland during the season-opening series March 27-30, but the Guardians won the series opener Friday. The Mariners have struggled offensively, scoring two or fewer runs in five of their last seven games. Cleveland’s offense received a boost Wednesday from right fielder Kahlil Watson, who drove in three runs. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 5-4 Guardians victory. Following Saturday’s contest, the teams close the series Sunday. Seattle returns home for a 10-game homestand against the Los Angeles Angels, Toronto Blue Jays and Miami Marlins. Cleveland hosts Texas for three games beginning Monday before a four-game set with the Chicago White Sox.
