WASHINGTON (Interstat) — The Philadelphia Phillies aim to capture a third consecutive victory over the Washington Nationals on Thursday night at Nationals Park, with right-hander Cade Cavalli taking the mound in the finale of a four-game series. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 p.m. EDT under clear skies and 82-degree heat. Philadelphia (43-36) has won two of the first three games in the series, including a 14-9 slugfest Tuesday. The Phillies enter as pregame favorites with a -1.5 run line, and the over/under is set at 8 runs. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 6-5 final score in favor of Philadelphia. Cavalli (4-4) will start for the Phillies. The Nationals have not announced a probable pitcher. Edmundo Sosa has been a key contributor for Philadelphia, particularly in Tuesday’s win when he went 2-for-5 with a home run and five RBIs. Over his past 10 games, Sosa has recorded multiple hits four times, including a 3-for-4 effort June 13 at Milwaukee that featured a homer and an RBI. He went hitless in Wednesday’s 3-2 victory. For Washington (41-39), second baseman Jorbit Vivas has provided consistent production. He went 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBIs in Tuesday’s loss and has reached base safely in six of his past eight games. Vivas is hitting .333 (5-for-15) over his last four contests. The Nationals took the series opener Monday with a 4-1 win but have dropped two straight since. Washington is 5-5 in its last 10 games. The Phillies have won three of the past five meetings between the clubs, including a 3-2 decision Wednesday. In the season-opening series March 30-April 1 in Philadelphia, the Phillies took two of three. Philadelphia will travel to New York for a three-game weekend series against the Mets starting Friday. Washington will head to Baltimore for a three-game set against the Orioles beginning Friday.
