BOSTON (Interstat) — The first-place New York Yankees visit Fenway Park on Thursday to begin a four-game series against the last-place Boston Red Sox, with first pitch scheduled for 7:10 p.m. under cloudy skies and 74 degrees. New York (47-31) holds the best record in the American League East. Boston (32-46) sits in last place. Left-hander Carlos Rodón takes the mound for the Yankees. Rodón (5-0 in his last five starts) is coming off a 4-3 win Tuesday at Detroit, allowing three earned runs over 5⅓ innings with five strikeouts. He has worked at least five innings in each of his past five outings. Boston counters with left-hander Ranger Suárez, who threw six innings Wednesday in an 8-6 loss at Colorado, allowing two earned runs with nine strikeouts. Suárez faced the Yankees on June 7 at Yankee Stadium, taking a 6-1 loss despite allowing one earned run over 6⅓ innings with six strikeouts. The Yankees took four of five meetings this season, including a three-game sweep in New York from April 21-23 and a split of two games in Boston on June 5 and 7. New York won its most recent game Tuesday at Detroit, 4-3. Second baseman Jazz Chisholm Jr. went 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs. Reliever David Bednar earned a hold with 1⅓ scoreless innings. Boston lost Wednesday at Colorado, 8-6. Outfielder Ceddanne Rafaela went 3-for-5 with an RBI, and designated hitter Connor Wong homered. Interstat’s simulator projects a 6-4 Yankees victory. New York is a -1.5 run favorite, with the over/under set at 8.
