TAMPA, Fla. (Interstat) — The Kansas City Royals aim for a three-game sweep of the Tampa Bay Rays on Wednesday at 6:50 p.m. at George Steinbrenner Field. The forecast calls for 90 degrees and clear. The Royals (33-46) are scheduled to use a tandem of left-hander Noah Cameron (4-4) and right-hander Griffin Jax (2-5). Tampa Bay (43-32) has not announced a probable starter. Kansas City has taken the first two games of the series by scores of 9-1 on Tuesday and 2-1 on Monday, after entering the matchup having lost five of their previous six. The Rays had won four of five before the series began. Royals right-hander Michael Wacha is a player to watch. He earned the win in Monday’s 2-1 victory, allowing one earned run on six hits over seven innings with five strikeouts. In his five prior outings, Wacha went 0-4 with a 5.58 ERA, including losses at Washington (June 16), against Texas (June 11), at Minnesota (June 5) and at Texas (May 31), and a win against Tampa Bay (June 22) — the same game that kicked off this series. Rays right-hander Drew Rasmussen is a key figure for Tampa Bay. He took the loss Monday despite a quality start: two earned runs on four hits over six innings with five strikeouts. In his previous four starts, Rasmussen posted a 1.29 ERA over 25 innings with 34 strikeouts, including a pair of seven-inning, one-run outings at the Los Angeles Dodgers (June 16) and against Boston (June 10), and a seven-inning shutout performance at Miami (June 5). Interstat’s game simulator projects a 4-3 Royals victory. Tampa Bay is installed as a -1.5 run favorite, with an over/under of 8 runs. The teams conclude the series Thursday. Kansas City then travels to Chicago to face the White Sox, while Tampa Bay returns home to host Arizona.
