Astros at Blue Jays Preview TORONTO (Interstat) — The Houston Astros and Toronto Blue Jays meet Tuesday afternoon at Rogers Centre in a pivotal American League matchup between two teams on the fringes of the postseason picture. Houston (37-42) sends right-hander Peter Lambert (6-4) to the mound. Toronto (38-39) has not announced its probable pitcher. The Astros enter the game after splitting the first two games of this series. Monday’s contest ended in a 1-1 tie, a result that leaves both clubs searching for momentum. Houston took two of three from Cleveland over the weekend, while Toronto split a two-game set at Chicago. Lambert will look to build on a solid stretch. The right-hander has provided consistent innings for a Houston rotation that has struggled with depth. He faces a Blue Jays lineup that has been inconsistent at the plate but showed power in Saturday’s 8-6 win at Wrigley Field. Players to watch Astros right-hander Kai-Wei Teng earned a win in his most recent outing June 21 against Cleveland, pitching six innings and allowing one earned run with four strikeouts. Teng has been up and down this season, posting a 1-4 record over his last five starts with a 6.56 ERA in that span. His June 21 performance, however, showed the potential that has kept him in the rotation. Blue Jays third baseman Kazuma Okamoto has been a key run producer for Toronto. The slugger drove in three runs June 20 against the Cubs, including a home run. Over his last 10 games, Okamoto has three homers and seven RBIs. He has been prone to cold stretches, going hitless in four of his last six games entering play Tuesday. Series context The season series is tied 1-1 after Monday’s tie. The teams wrap up the three-game set Wednesday before the Astros travel to Detroit and the Blue Jays host Texas. Houston’s offense has been inconsistent, scoring two runs or fewer in five of its last 10 games. Toronto has shown more pop, plating five or more runs in four of its last seven. The Interstat game simulator projects a 6-5 Toronto victory. First pitch is scheduled for 7:07 p.m. EDT.
