ST. LOUIS – The Arizona Diamondbacks visit the St. Louis Cardinals on Tuesday night in the second game of a four-game series at Busch Stadium, with first pitch scheduled for 7:15 p.m. under cloudy skies and 71-degree temperatures. Left-hander Eduardo Rodriguez (6-2) takes the mound for Arizona, which enters play at 39-38, while St. Louis right-hander Kyle Leahy (5-4) counters for the Cardinals (41-34). The Cardinals took Monday’s series opener 1-0. Rodriguez has been a stabilizing force in Arizona’s rotation. The Diamondbacks are coming off a 4-2 loss Sunday to the Minnesota Twins, in which right-hander Jose Cabrera pitched five innings of three-hit scoreless ball with three strikeouts. Cabrera, a player to watch for Arizona on Tuesday, has allowed no earned runs over his past five innings. The Cardinals are riding momentum from a 12-10 win Sunday at Kansas City, powered by rookie second baseman JJ Wetherholt, who went 3 for 5 with two home runs and three RBIs. Wetherholt has been streaky (Interstat) — he is hitting .294 over his past seven games, with three multi-hit performances and three hitless outings in that span. He enters Tuesday’s game with two homers and six RBIs over his last three contests. Arizona stumbled through its previous series against Minnesota, losing two of three and allowing 25 runs over the three games. St. Louis also dropped two of three at Kansas City but erupted for 12 runs in the finale. The betting line favors Arizona by 1.5 runs, while the over/under is set at 8.5. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 5-4 win for St. Louis. Both teams will continue the series Wednesday and Thursday before heading out on the road. Arizona faces Tampa Bay for three games beginning Friday, while St. Louis returns home to host Miami for a weekend set.
