WASHINGTON (Interstat) — The Philadelphia Phillies visit the Washington Nationals on Monday at 7:05 p.m. at Nationals Park in the opener of a four-game series between National League East rivals. Philadelphia (41-35) sends left-hander Foster Griffin (7-2, 3.45 ERA) to the mound. Washington (40-38) counters with right-hander Andrew Alvarez (2-1, 3.05 ERA). The Phillies enter on a high note after a 15-3 rout of the New York Mets on Saturday. Designated hitter Kyle Schwarber went 4-for-5 with three home runs and six RBIs in that game, part of a torrid stretch that includes four homers and nine RBIs over his past two games. Over his last 10 games, Schwarber is batting .326 with five home runs and 11 RBIs. Alvarez has been steady for Washington. In his most recent outing Sunday at Tampa Bay, he allowed one earned run over four innings with six strikeouts in a 4-3 loss. Over his past five appearances, Alvarez has a 1.80 ERA with 22 strikeouts in 19 2/3 innings. The Nationals are coming off a 4-3 loss at Tampa Bay on Sunday but have won four of their past six. Shortstop CJ Abrams homered and drove in a run Sunday, continuing a productive stretch. These teams met in late March in Philadelphia, with the Nationals taking two of three. Washington won the opener 13-2, but the Phillies took the final two games, 3-2 and 6-5. First pitch temperature is forecast at 85 degrees with clouds. The projected final score from Interstat’s game simulator is Washington 6, Philadelphia 5. Following Monday’s game, the series continues Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday before the Phillies travel to New York to face the Mets and the Nationals head to Baltimore for a three-game set.
