BASEBALL PREVIEW: Dodgers at Diamondbacks PHOENIX (Interstat) – The Los Angeles Dodgers, owners of the best record in the National League, open a three-game series Tuesday night against the Arizona Diamondbacks at Chase Field after Monday’s scheduled opener was postponed. First pitch is set for 6:40 p.m. local time. The Dodgers (38-21) will send left-hander Eric Lauer (2-5, 4.91 ERA) to the mound. Lauer has struggled this season, but he faces a Diamondbacks lineup that has been inconsistent. The Dodgers also have right-hander Michael Soroka (7-2, 2.88) available out of the bullpen, though he is not expected to start. Arizona (31-27) counters with right-hander Merrill Kelly, who is 6-0 with a 1.93 ERA over his past eight starts. Kelly worked 5 1/3 innings in his last outing, a 3-2 loss at Seattle on Sunday, allowing two earned runs. Yoshinobu Yamamoto is a key player to watch for the Dodgers. The right-hander, primarily a reliever, tossed 5 1/3 scoreless innings with 10 strikeouts in a 9-1 win over Philadelphia on Sunday. He has a 2-2 record and 2.81 ERA over his past four appearances. For Arizona, Kelly has been a workhorse. He threw a complete-game four-hitter at Colorado on May 15 and has yielded three earned runs or fewer in four of his past five starts. The Dodgers enter on a four-game winning streak after taking three of four from Philadelphia. They outscored the Phillies 20-10 in the series. Second baseman Alex Freeland homered and drove in two runs Sunday, and third baseman Max Muncy added a homer. Arizona has lost five of its past six, including three extra-inning defeats in Seattle. The Diamondbacks’ pitching staff has a 5.40 ERA over that stretch. The teams split a four-game series in Los Angeles in late March, with the Dodgers winning three of those meetings. The Dodgers outscored Arizona 16-8 in that set. Tuesday’s game also features a notable betting line: The Dodgers are -1.5 run-line favorites, and the over/under is set at 9 runs. The Interstat game simulator projects an 8-6 Dodgers victory. After Tuesday, the series continues Wednesday and Thursday before the Dodgers host the Los Angeles Angels for a three-game set starting Friday. Arizona will host the Washington Nationals for three games this weekend before traveling to Miami.
