DODGERS AT DIAMONDBACKS PHOENIX (Interstat) — The Los Angeles Dodgers, owners of the best record in the National League, open a four-game series against the Arizona Diamondbacks on Monday night at Chase Field. First pitch is set for 6:40 p.m. PDT. Los Angeles (38-21) has won two straight after taking two of three from Philadelphia over the weekend, including a 9-1 victory Sunday. Arizona (31-27) dropped two of three at Seattle, falling 3-2 in 10 innings in the series finale Sunday. The Dodgers send right-hander Yoshinobu Yamamoto (5-3) to the mound. The Japanese ace is coming off a dominant outing Sunday against the Phillies, allowing four hits and zero earned runs with 10 strikeouts over 5 1/3 innings in a win. Over his past three starts, Yamamoto has a 0.93 ERA with 21 strikeouts in 19 1/3 innings, though he took losses in two of those outings despite allowing one earned run or fewer each time. Arizona counters with right-hander Merrill Kelly (6-3), who also labored through his most recent start. He allowed eight hits and two earned runs with just two strikeouts over 5 1/3 innings in a loss at Seattle on Sunday. Kelly has been otherwise strong this season, tossing a complete-game win at Colorado on May 15 in which he allowed one run and struck out three. The Dodgers swept a three-game set against the Diamondbacks in Los Angeles in late March, outscoring Arizona 16-8. The most recent meeting was a 3-2 Dodgers win on March 28. Los Angeles has been especially productive at the plate. Second baseman Alex Freeland and third baseman Max Muncy each homered Sunday against Philadelphia. The Dodgers have scored 15 or more runs twice in their past eight games and are averaging 5.6 runs per game this season. Arizona’s offense has been less consistent. The Diamondbacks managed just three runs or fewer in four of their past seven games entering the series. Betting lines installed the Dodgers as a -1.5 favorite, with the over/under set at 9. Interstat’s game simulator projects an 8-7 Dodgers victory. The series continues Tuesday and Wednesday before the teams meet again Thursday in the finale of the four-game set.
