AP Sports Preview: Marlins at Mets NEW YORK (Interstat) — The Miami Marlins visit the New York Mets on Friday night at Citi Field, with first pitch scheduled for 7:10 p.m. EDT. The forecast calls for 68 degrees and cloudy skies. Miami (26-31) will send right-hander Max Meyer (5-0, 3.12 ERA) to the mound. Meyer has been a revelation for the Marlins, remaining undefeated through his first 10 starts. New York (23-33) counters with right-hander Freddy Peralta (3-4, 4.45 ERA), who looks to snap a personal two-game losing streak. The Marlins enter having dropped two of three in Toronto, falling 2-1 on Wednesday despite a dominant relief outing from right-hander Eury Pérez. Pérez, a key figure in Miami’s bullpen, struck out nine over four hitless innings in that loss. He earned a win against these same Mets on May 22, allowing one run over 6 1/3 innings with five strikeouts. Over his last seven appearances, Pérez has a 2.70 ERA with 35 strikeouts in 28 innings. The Mets counter with rookie right-hander Jonah Tong, who has impressed in limited action. Tong threw 3 2/3 scoreless innings against Cincinnati on Wednesday, allowing three hits and striking out one. In his only career start against Miami on May 22, he tossed three hitless innings with two strikeouts. These NL East rivals just met last weekend in Miami, with the Marlins sweeping a three-game series, outscoring the Mets 10-2. Miami pitchers held New York to a .155 batting average in that series. The Marlins have won five of the last seven meetings between the clubs. Miami is hitting .239 as a team, tied for 11th in the National League, while the Mets are batting .245. New York’s pitching staff has a 4.67 ERA, fourth-worst in the NL. Miami’s staff ERA sits at 3.98, good for eighth in the league. BetMGM Sportsbook lists Miami as a -1.5 run-line favorite. The over/under is set at 7 runs. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 4-2 Marlins victory. Following this series, Miami travels to Washington for a three-game set starting Monday. The Mets head to Seattle for a three-game interleague series beginning Monday.
