PREVIEW: Tigers at White Sox CHICAGO (Interstat) — The Detroit Tigers visit the Chicago White Sox on Friday at 7:10 p.m. at Guaranteed Rate Field, with the forecast calling for 60-degree temperatures and cloudy skies. Detroit (22-35) sends struggling right-hander Erick Fedde (0-5) to the mound against a White Sox team (29-27) that has won four of its last five games. Fedde has yet to earn a victory this season, while Chicago counters with Davis Martin (5-0), who has won his last five starts. Martin has been dominant in that stretch. In his most recent outing Thursday against Minnesota, he allowed one earned run on two hits over six innings with five strikeouts in a 6-2 victory. Over his previous four starts, Martin posted a 1.52 ERA with 33 strikeouts in 24⅔ innings. The Tigers have lost nine of their last 11 games and are coming off a 7-1 defeat Thursday to the Los Angeles Angels. Detroit right-hander Jack Flaherty took the loss in that game, allowing three earned runs on six hits over 5⅔ innings with nine strikeouts. Flaherty has lost his last six starts. Left fielder Wenceel Pérez provided the lone bright spot for Detroit on Thursday, going 2-for-3 with a home run and an RBI. The White Sox have won 10 of their last 13 games and are coming off a 15-2 thrashing of Minnesota on Wednesday. Designated hitter Randal Grichuk drove in three runs Thursday, and center fielder Tristan Peters went 3-for-4 with an RBI. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 5-2 White Sox victory, though sportsbooks have installed Detroit as a -1.5 favorite. The over/under is set at 8½ runs. The three-game series continues Saturday and Sunday before both teams hit the road. The Tigers travel to Tampa Bay for a three-game set starting Monday, while the White Sox open a three-game series at Minnesota the same day.
