SEATTLE (Interstat) — The Arizona Diamondbacks and Seattle Mariners open a three-game series Friday night at T-Mobile Park, with first pitch scheduled for 7:10 p.m. under cloudy skies and 67-degree temperatures. Arizona (31-24) enters the series having won seven of its last 10 games, including Wednesday’s 3-2 victory at San Francisco. The Diamondbacks send right-hander Zac Gallen (3-4) to the mound. Gallen allowed four hits and two runs while striking out three in his last outing, a 2-0 loss to Pittsburgh on May 6, though he has not recorded a win since April 25. Seattle (28-29) has won three straight after a 9-1 victory Wednesday at Oakland. The Mariners counter with right-hander George Kirby (5-4). Kirby has won his last two starts, allowing two hits and no runs while striking out six in a 2-0 victory at Kansas City on May 22, followed by five hits and no runs with six strikeouts in a 9-1 win at Oakland on May 27. Players to watch include Arizona’s Michael Soroka, who has been sharp over his last five starts. Soroka (3-2) pitched six innings, allowing four hits and two earned runs with three strikeouts in Wednesday’s win over the Giants. In his previous four outings, he allowed two earned runs or fewer in each, including a six-inning, three-hit shutout performance May 11 at Texas. Seattle’s Logan Gilbert, a key reliever, has been consistent in recent appearances, allowing two earned runs or fewer in four of his last five outings. Gilbert pitched a scoreless inning with one strikeout Wednesday at Oakland. The Mariners are slight favorites, installed at -1.5 on the run line. The over/under is set at 7 runs. Interstat’s game simulator projects an 8-5 Arizona victory, but the ELO system gives Seattle a 53.9% probability to win. Arizona continues its road trip Saturday and Sunday at Seattle before returning home June 1 to host the Los Angeles Dodgers for a four-game series. Seattle remains home to face the Diamondbacks through Sunday, then hosts the New York Mets starting June 1 before traveling to Detroit on June 5.
