TORONTO (Interstat) — The Miami Marlins and Toronto Blue Jays meet Wednesday afternoon at Rogers Centre in the finale of a three-game series, with both clubs clinging to the fringes of the playoff race. Miami (26-29) will start right-hander Eury Pérez (3-6, 4.12 ERA). Pérez has struggled recently, allowing 12 earned runs over his past two starts spanning 10 innings. The 23-year-old is 0-2 with a 7.20 ERA in two career appearances against Toronto. Toronto (25-29) counters with right-hander Trey Yesavage (4-4, 3.86 ERA). Yesavage lasted only 6²/₃ innings Monday against Miami, surrendering five earned runs on five hits in an 8-2 loss. He had won his previous two outings, including a six-inning, eight-strikeout gem at New York on May 20. The Blue Jays have been installed as -1.5 run-line favorites, according to Interstat’s game simulator, which projects a 6-5 Marlins victory. The over/under is 7.5 runs. Miami brings momentum after winning 8-2 on Monday behind Janson Junk, who scattered eight hits over five innings and allowed one earned run. Junk (8-2 record in his past six decisions) is a player to watch despite not starting Wednesday; he has been sharp in three of his last four outings, including a six-inning, six-strikeout win over Washington on May 9. Toronto’s player to watch is Yesavage, who despite Monday’s hiccup has been effective overall. In his previous four starts, he posted a 1.50 ERA with 26 strikeouts across 20 innings. The 24-year-old will need to regain that form against a Marlins lineup that scored eight runs Monday, led by Javier Sanoja (2-for-4, two RBIs) and Kyle Stowers (2-for-4, two RBIs). The series is tied after Toronto’s 2-1 win Tuesday. Miami has won three straight road games, while Toronto has dropped three of its last four at home. Wednesday’s game begins a pivotal stretch for both teams. Miami heads to New York for three games against the Mets starting Friday, then visits Washington before returning home. Toronto travels to Baltimore for a four-game set beginning Thursday, followed by a three-game series at Atlanta.
