NEW YORK (Interstat) — The Cincinnati Reds aim for a three-game sweep Wednesday night when they face the New York Mets at Citi Field. Cincinnati (28-25) has dominated the early portion of this series, winning 7-2 on Monday and 6-2 on Tuesday. The Reds send left-hander Andrew Abbott (4-2) to the mound. The Mets (22-32) will counter with a pitcher yet to be announced, though right-hander Jonathan Pintaro worked 2⅔ scoreless innings of relief Monday. The forecast calls for 70-degree temperatures and cloudy skies for the 7:10 p.m. first pitch. Players to watch Reds left-hander Nick Lodolo, who pitched six innings of one-run ball with seven strikeouts in Monday’s win, has been a key contributor despite recent inconsistency. Over his last four starts, he owns a 5.14 ERA, though he has held opponents to three earned runs or fewer in two of those outings. Pintaro has been effective in limited relief work. In two May appearances, he has yet to allow a run over 3⅔ innings, striking out three while walking none. The Mets may turn to him either as a spot starter or as a primary bulk reliever behind an opener. Recent history The Reds have outscored the Mets 13-4 in the first two games of this set. Cincinnati’s offense received a boost Monday from a balanced attack, while on Tuesday, the Reds manufactured runs against a Mets bullpen that has struggled this month. New York has lost five of its last six games, including three straight to fall a season-worst 10 games under .500. The Mets have scored two runs or fewer in four of those five losses. Projection Interstat’s game simulator projects a 5-3 victory for Cincinnati, which would extend New York’s losing streak to four games. The Reds return home Friday to face Atlanta, while the Mets host Miami for a three-game set. With Abbott on the mound for Cincinnati, the Reds look to build on a promising stretch that has seen them win seven of their last 10. The Mets, meanwhile, search for any sign of momentum as they continue a disappointing season.
