TORONTO (Interstat) — The Miami Marlins and Toronto Blue Jays continue their three-game series Tuesday at Rogers Centre, with the clubs separated by a half-game in the standings. Miami (25-29) took a 2-0 shutout victory Monday in the series opener, snapping a three-game losing streak. The Marlins have won four of their past five overall after sweeping the New York Mets at home over the weekend. Right-hander Sandy Alcantara (3-3, 4.02 ERA) is scheduled to start for Miami. Toronto (25-28) has lost two straight and three of its past four. The Blue Jays dropped their weekend series against Pittsburgh, losing the finale 4-1 on Sunday. The club has not announced a starter, but right-hander Dylan Cease is a key arm to watch. Cease has been effective over his past three starts, going 2-1 with 26 strikeouts and a 2.88 ERA in 19 innings. He took a loss in his last outing, though, allowing two earned runs over 4 2/3 innings against the Pirates on Sunday. Miami outfielder Heriberto Hernández has been hot at the plate. In Sunday’s 4-0 win over the Mets, Hernández went 2-for-2 with a home run and four RBIs. Over his past five games, he is 4-for-12 with two homers and five RBIs. He also went 2-for-4 with two RBIs in a 5-2 win over Washington on May 10. Toronto looks to rebound offensively after scoring just one run in Monday’s loss. The Blue Jays offense has struggled to produce consistently, scoring two or fewer runs in four of their past six games. Cease, who is 3-2 over his past five outings, will be relied upon to keep the game close. Tuesday’s matchup marks the second meeting between the two clubs this season. The Marlins won Monday’s opener behind strong pitching and timely hitting. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 5-4 victory for Toronto. After Tuesday’s contest, the series concludes Wednesday. Miami then travels to New York for a three-game set against the Mets starting Friday, while Toronto heads to Baltimore for a four-game series beginning Thursday.
