NEW YORK (Interstat) — Chase Burns (6-1) takes the mound for the Cincinnati Reds against the New York Mets on Tuesday night at Citi Field, where the visitors look to build on a series-opening victory. First pitch is set for 7:10 p.m. under partly cloudy skies and 69 degrees. The Reds (28-25) enter the game having won seven of their last 10, while the Mets (22-32) have dropped four of their last five. Burns, the Reds’ probable starter, will face a Mets lineup that managed only two runs in Monday’s 7-2 loss to Cincinnati. The right-hander owns a strong won-loss record but will be tested against a New York club desperate to snap its skid. A key player to watch for Cincinnati is left-hander Nick Lodolo, though he is not scheduled to start Tuesday. Lodolo earned the win in Monday’s 7-2 victory, allowing one earned run over six innings with seven strikeouts. Over his past four appearances, he has shown inconsistency: a 5 2/3-inning outing May 18 against Philadelphia (three earned runs, loss) followed by a May 13 start against Washington (five earned runs in four innings, loss) and a May 8 start against Houston (four earned runs in 5 1/3 innings, loss). But his dominant turn Monday suggests he remains a formidable arm out of the bullpen or as a rotation piece. For the Mets, right-hander Jonathan Pintaro is a player to monitor. He worked 2 2/3 scoreless innings in Monday’s loss, allowing no hits with three strikeouts. In his previous outing May 23 at Miami, he pitched one scoreless frame. Pintaro has not allowed a run across his last 3 2/3 innings covering two appearances. These teams have met twice this season, with Cincinnati winning both. The Mets have dropped eight of their last 10 overall, while the Reds have won four of their last six. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 4-3 victory for Cincinnati. After Tuesday’s contest, the clubs meet again Wednesday at Citi Field before the Reds travel home to host Atlanta and the Mets welcome Miami.
