CINCINNATI (Interstat) — The St. Louis Cardinals look to reverse a two-game losing streak when they visit the Cincinnati Reds on Friday night at Great American Ball Park. First pitch is set for 7:10 p.m. under cloudy skies and 66 degrees. Right-hander Kyle Leahy (5-3) is the scheduled starter for St. Louis (28-21), though the club listed left-hander Chris Paddack (0-5) as a probable earlier in the week. Leahy faces a Reds team that has won three of its last four games after a 9-4 victory at Philadelphia on Wednesday. The Cardinals dropped a 6-2 decision to Pittsburgh on Thursday, their second straight loss to the Pirates. Dustin May took the loss, allowing four earned runs on six hits over 5 1/3 innings with seven strikeouts. Over his last five starts, May is 2-3 with a 4.92 ERA, striking out 22 in 28 1/3 innings. St. Louis has lost four of its last five games overall, a stretch that includes shutout losses to Kansas City and Pittsburgh. The Cardinals’ offense managed only two runs in their past two games. Cincinnati (26-24) rode a strong start from Andrew Abbott in its win Wednesday. Abbott allowed one earned run on three hits over 5 1/3 innings, striking out three. Over his last four starts, the left-hander is 3-1 with a 1.64 ERA, with 14 strikeouts in 22 innings. First baseman Nathaniel Lowe went 2-for-5 with three RBIs in the win, and third baseman Sal Stewart was 4-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs. The Reds have scored at least four runs in nine of their last 11 games. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 6-5 St. Louis victory, though the ELO system gives Cincinnati a 52.4% chance to win. St. Louis is a -1.5 favorite on the run line, and the over/under is 9.5. The three-game series continues Saturday and Sunday. St. Louis visits Milwaukee next week, while Cincinnati travels to New York to face the Mets.
