(Interstat) — The Seattle Mariners and Kansas City Royals open a three-game series Friday night at Kauffman Stadium, with first pitch scheduled for 7:10 p.m. under partly cloudy skies and a temperature of 64 degrees. Seattle (24-27) sends right-hander Logan Gilbert to the mound. Gilbert is 2-4 with a 4.32 ERA this season. The Mariners also listed left-hander Noah Cameron as a probable pitcher, but Gilbert is expected to start. Cameron is 2-3 with a 3.98 ERA. Kansas City (20-30) counters with right-hander Michael Wacha, who is 4-5 with a 3.12 ERA. Wacha has been sharp in his past two starts, allowing one earned run in six innings in a loss to Boston on May 20 and three earned runs in six innings in a loss at St. Louis on May 15. The Royals have won three consecutive games against Seattle, sweeping a three-game series May 1-3 at T-Mobile Park by scores of 7-6, 3-2 and 4-1. Seattle is coming off a 5-4 win over the Chicago White Sox on Wednesday, snapping a four-game losing streak. Right-hander Emerson Hancock earned the win, allowing two earned runs on five hits with four strikeouts over five innings. Hancock has been a key contributor in the rotation and is a player to watch. In his past five starts, he is 3-1 with a 2.70 ERA, including a 14-strikeout performance against Kansas City on May 2. Kansas City lost 4-3 to Boston on Wednesday in 10 innings. Wacha took the no-decision despite allowing one earned run on six hits with eight strikeouts over six innings. Catcher Salvador Perez went 3-for-4 with a home run and an RBI, and catcher Elias Diaz hit a solo homer. The Royals have lost seven of their past eight games, including dropping four of five to Boston and two of three to St. Louis. Kansas City has scored three runs or fewer in four of its past five games. Seattle has won five of its past 10 games and is 12-14 on the road this season. The Mariners are 12-13 at home. The Interstat game simulator projects a 4-1 Seattle victory, with the Mariners holding a 53.9% probability to win. Seattle is a -1.5 run favorite. The over/under is 8 runs. Following the series, Seattle travels to for three games beginning May 25, then returns home for six games against Arizona and the New York Mets. Kansas City hosts the New York Yankees for three games starting May 25, then visits Texas for three games beginning May 29.
