DETROIT (Interstat) — The Toronto Blue Jays and Detroit Tigers close a three-game series Sunday at Comerica Park, with first pitch set for 7:10 p.m. under cloudy skies and temperatures near 72 degrees. Toronto (20-25) took Saturday’s contest 2-1 in 10 innings to even the set after a 3-2 loss Friday. Detroit (20-26) seeks to split the season series after winning the opener. Right-hander Kevin Gausman (2-3, 4.50 ERA) gets the start for the Blue Jays. He enters after a tough outing against Tampa Bay, allowing four runs over five innings in a 5-3 loss last Sunday. Gausman owns a career 2-1 mark against Detroit with a 3.60 ERA in four appearances. Detroit counters with right-hander Casey Mize, who worked six innings of two-hit shutout ball Saturday in the 2-1 defeat, striking out four without a walk. In three starts this season, Mize has a 2.18 ERA but just one win to show for it, a 5-2 decision over Milwaukee on April 22. Players to watch Blue Jays reliever Spencer Miles has quietly fashioned a dominant run. Over his last seven outings spanning 14⅓ innings, the right-hander has allowed three runs on 10 hits while striking out 16. He contributed 3⅔ innings of two-hit shutout relief in Saturday’s extra-inning win, fanning five. Tigers center fielder Matt Vierling keyed Saturday’s offensive output, going 2-for-4 with a solo home run and an RBI. He is batting .302 with four homers and 17 RBIs this season, providing the rare run support Mize received little of. Series history Saturday’s game marked the second extra-inning affair between the teams this year; Friday’s 3-2 Tigers win was decided in regulation. The Blue Jays have won two of the last three meetings but are just 16-21 against Detroit at Comerica Park since 2020. Betting line Interstat’s game simulator projects a 3-2 Tigers victory. Despite that forecast, Toronto enters as a -1.5 favorite on the spread, while the over/under sits at 8 runs. The Blue Jays’ -1.5 line indicates oddsmakers expect a narrow win or a game decided by at least two runs. What’s next Toronto opens a four-game series Monday at Yankee Stadium against New York. Detroit returns home Tuesday to begin a four-game set against Cleveland.
