ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (Interstat) — The Tampa Bay Rays, leading the American League East with a 29-15 record, will host the Miami Marlins (21-25) in the finale of a three-game weekend interleague series Sunday afternoon at George Steinbrenner Field. First pitch is set for 1:10 p.m. under clear skies with temperatures near 90 degrees. Right-hander Drew Rasmussen (3-1) will start for Miami. Right-hander Nick Martinez (5-1, 2.35 ERA) will counter for Tampa Bay. The Rays have won seven of their last 10 games but dropped Saturday’s contest 10-5 in 10 innings after the Marlins rallied late. Tampa Bay won the series opener 7-2 on Friday. The Rays lead the season series 2-1 heading into Sunday’s finale. Martinez will look to rebound from a tough-luck outing Saturday, when he allowed five hits and no earned runs over six innings but did not factor in the decision. Over his previous four starts, the veteran right-hander has posted a 0.96 ERA with 17 strikeouts in 24⅔ innings, including a seven-inning, three-hit shutout at Cleveland on April 28. Miami counters with Rasmussen, who has been steady this season. The right-hander has allowed two earned runs or fewer in three of his four starts. He did not face Tampa Bay in the first two games of this series. Marlins right-hander Sandy Alcantara is a player to watch after throwing six scoreless innings in Saturday’s win, scattering seven hits while striking out six. Alcantara is 4-1 in his last five starts and has a 1.50 ERA over that span. He is not scheduled to pitch Sunday. For Tampa Bay, third baseman Junior Caminero drove in two runs Saturday and is hitting .310 over his last 10 games. Outfielder Josh Lowe is 8-for-20 in the series with a home run. Miami has won three of its last four games overall. Tampa Bay is 16-6 at home this season. The game simulation from Interstat projects a 7-3 Rays victory. Tampa Bay is a -1.5 run favorite. The over/under is 7.5 runs. Following Sunday’s game, Miami returns home for a four-game series against Atlanta starting Monday. Tampa Bay begins a three-game home set against Baltimore on Monday night.
