CINCINNATI (Interstat) — The Washington Nationals look to build on a lopsided series-opening win when they face the Cincinnati Reds on Thursday afternoon at Great American Ball Park. First pitch is scheduled under clear skies with a temperature of 71 degrees. Washington (20-22) has not announced a starter for the matinee, listing both left-hander Foster Griffin and right-hander Chase Burns as probables. Each is 4-1 this season. The Reds (22-20) will counter with a bullpen game after using their rotation for the first two games of the series, with reliever Luis Mey expected to see significant innings. Mey has allowed two earned runs over 6.2 innings in his last four appearances. A player to watch for the Nationals is left fielder Daylen Lile, who enters red-hot. Lile homered twice and drove in four runs in Tuesday’s 10-4 win over Cincinnati, going 3 for 5. Over his past 10 games, Lile has hits in eight of them, including multiple hits in three of his last four. For the Reds, Mey has been effective in relief, striking out five over two innings Tuesday while allowing one earned run. He has not allowed an earned run in his two other May outings combined. Washington is coming off a 10-4 victory Tuesday in which Lile and first baseman Luis García Jr. each hit two homers. The Nationals have won four of their last five. Cincinnati has dropped six of its last nine. The Interstat game simulator projects a 4-2 Washington victory. However, Cincinnati opened as a -1.5 favorite, and the over/under is 8. The Nationals can take a 2-1 series lead before heading home to face Baltimore on Friday. The Reds open a three-game series at Cleveland the same night.
