HOUSTON (Interstat) — The Seattle Mariners aim for a series sweep Thursday evening against the Houston Astros at Daikin Park, where the visitors will send right-hander Mike Burrows to the mound against a club that has lost six straight games. First pitch is set for 6:40 p.m. under clear skies and a forecast temperature of 90 degrees. The Astros (16-27) have not announced a starting pitcher for the series finale. Seattle (21-22) has won three consecutive games at Daikin Park, outscoring the Astros 14-3 over the first two games of this set. The Mariners won 10-2 on Tuesday and 1-0 on Wednesday. Burrows (2-4, 4.50 ERA) will make his ninth start of the season. He has posted a 2-1 record with a 3.32 ERA over his past three outings, striking out 16 in 19 innings. The Mariners also have right-hander Luis Castillo (0-4, 5.70) available out of the bullpen after he was scratched from a scheduled start earlier in the week. Left fielder Randy Arozarena leads Seattle’s offense into the matchup. He went 4-for-4 with a home run and three RBI in Tuesday’s victory and is 6-for-8 with a double and a homer over the first two games of this series. Over his past 10 games, Arozarena is batting .333 (11-for-33) with two home runs and seven RBI. For Houston, relief pitcher Jayden Murray has become a key piece out of the bullpen despite recent struggles. He allowed two earned runs in three innings Tuesday against Seattle. Over his past five appearances, Murray holds a 1.69 ERA across 5 1/3 innings with four strikeouts. The Astros have lost 12 of their past 15 games and sit in last place in the American League West. The Mariners are in third place in the same division, 2 1/2 games behind first-place Texas. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 5-4 Seattle victory. The Mariners are installed as a -1.5 run favorite, and the over/under is set at 9 1/2 runs. Seattle concludes its six-game road trip and returns home Friday to open a series against San Diego. Houston opens a three-game home series against Texas on Friday.
