NEW YORK (Interstat) — The Detroit Tigers and New York Mets conclude their three-game series Thursday evening at Citi Field, with first pitch scheduled for 7 p.m. under cloudy skies and 69-degree temperatures. Probable starters: Right-hander Nolan McLean (1-2) for the Tigers. The Mets had not announced a starter as of Wednesday. The Tigers (19-23) evened the series with a 2-1 win Wednesday, after dropping Tuesday’s opener 10-2. Detroit’s offense has managed only four runs in the series. The Mets (16-25) have lost three of their last four. McLean has a 5.40 ERA this season and has not earned a victory since April 14. He will rely on a bullpen anchored by left-hander Tyler Holton, who has been nearly untouchable. Over his last five appearances, Holton has allowed one hit and no earned runs in 5 2/3 innings, striking out eight. In Tuesday’s loss, he threw 1 1/3 scoreless innings with three strikeouts. In 10 appearances this month, Holton has given up earned runs in only two outings, both in late April. For the season, his ERA sits at 2.45. For the Mets, right-hander Freddy Peralta has been the team’s most consistent starter. In his last start Tuesday against Detroit, he allowed two runs over six innings with seven strikeouts to earn the win. Over his last three starts, Peralta has a 1.69 ERA with 18 strikeouts in 17 2/3 innings. He has allowed two or fewer runs in four of his five starts and has struck out seven or more in three of them. His overall ERA is 3.12. The Mets are installed as -1.5 favorites on the run line, with an over/under of 7.5 runs. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 5-3 Mets victory. Detroit is 7-12 on the road this season. The Tigers open a six-game homestand Friday against the Toronto Blue Jays, followed by a four-game set with the Cleveland Guardians. The Mets are 9-11 at home. They host the crosstown New York Yankees for a three-game weekend series beginning Friday, then go on the road for series against the Washington Nationals and Miami Marlins.
