MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (Interstat) — The Baltimore Orioles aim for a three-game sweep of the Miami Marlins on Thursday night at loanDepot Park, where left-hander Cade Povich (1-1) opposes Miami right-hander Max Meyer (2-0). First pitch is scheduled for 7:10 p.m. under partly cloudy skies with temperatures near 82 degrees. Baltimore (17-20) has taken the first two games of this interleague series, winning 7-4 on Wednesday and 9-7 on Tuesday. The Orioles snapped a four-game losing streak with those victories, having been swept in a five-game series at the New York Yankees earlier in the week. Right-hander Brandon Young is a player to watch for Baltimore. Young earned the win Wednesday, allowing three earned runs on four hits with five strikeouts over 6.0 innings. He has been inconsistent this season, surrendering seven earned runs on 10 hits in a loss to Houston on April 29 after posting a quality start against Boston on April 24. Povich will make his third start of the season. The 25-year-old lefty took a no-decision in his last outing, allowing two runs on four hits across 5.2 innings. Miami (16-21) has lost two straight after winning four of its previous five games. The Marlins took two of three from the Philadelphia Phillies over the weekend before dropping the series opener to Baltimore. Left-hander Dax Fulton is a player to watch for Miami. Fulton took the loss Wednesday, allowing two earned runs on three hits with three strikeouts across 4.0 innings. The Marlins will look to Meyer, who has been sharp in his two starts, to halt the skid. Pete Alonso homered and drove in three runs for Baltimore on Wednesday. Adley Rutschman went 2-for-3 with two RBIs. For Miami, center fielder Jakob Marsee drove in two runs. Miami’s Eury Pérez struggled in Wednesday’s start, allowing five earned runs on four hits over 5.0 innings. The Interstat game simulator projects a 3-2 final score in favor of Baltimore. The Interstat ELO system gives Miami a 51.70 percent probability of winning. Baltimore is installed as a pregame favorite with a spread of minus-1.5. The over/under is 8.5 runs. Following Thursday’s contest, Baltimore returns home for a 10-game homestand beginning Friday against the Oakland Athletics. Miami hosts the Washington Nationals for a three-game series starting Friday.
