DENVER (Interstat) — The New York Mets and Colorado Rockies meet Wednesday afternoon at Coors Field, with first pitch scheduled under a forecast of 40-degree rain. The Mets (13-22) send rookie right-hander Christian Scott (0-0) to the mound for his season debut against a Rockies club (14-22) that has lost three of its last four. Colorado has not announced a starter. Both teams trail in their respective divisions, but Wednesday’s game offers a chance to gain ground. The Mets have won three of their last four after taking the series opener 4-2 on Monday. The Rockies, meanwhile, have dropped five of six overall. New York’s recent success has been fueled by its bullpen. Left-hander David Peterson, who earned the win Monday with four innings of two-run ball, has been a key weapon. Over his last six outings, Peterson has posted a 4.50 ERA with 27 strikeouts in 24⅔ innings, though he allowed seven earned runs in a disastrous appearance April 29 against Washington. Colorado will counter with reliever Juan Mejia, who impressed Monday with two scoreless innings, striking out five and allowing no hits. Mejia has been effective overall this season, striking out 19 over 11⅔ innings while posting a 4.63 ERA. He has not allowed an earned run in three of his last four appearances. The Mets and Rockies are familiar foes. After sweeping a three-game series in New York last month, Colorado dropped Monday’s game. Wednesday’s matinee will be the fifth meeting between the clubs in 13 days. Scott, a rookie, will face a Rockies lineup that has struggled to score consistently but has shown power at home. The Mets’ offense, meanwhile, is averaging 4.1 runs per game but has been inconsistent. The Interstat game simulator projects a 4-3 Colorado victory. Following Wednesday’s game, the Mets travel to Arizona for a three-game series starting Friday, while the Rockies head to Philadelphia.
