DETROIT (Interstat) — The Boston Red Sox will look to complete a three-game sweep of the Detroit Tigers on Wednesday night at Comerica Park, but they will send a struggling starter to the mound against a Detroit team seeking to snap a two-game skid in the series. First pitch is scheduled for 6:40 p.m. under a forecast of 56 degrees and rain. Right-hander Jack Flaherty (0-2, 4.50 ERA) will start for Boston (14-21). Flaherty has yet to earn a win this season and will be making his seventh start. Detroit had not announced a starter as of late Tuesday. The Red Sox have taken the first two games of this series, winning 5-4 on Monday and 10-3 on Tuesday. Monday’s victory was keyed by left-hander Payton Tolle, who allowed one hit and struck out eight over seven scoreless innings. Tolle is scheduled to be available out of the bullpen Wednesday. Outfielder Jarren Duran also homered and drove in three runs in that game. Detroit (18-18) will counter with right-hander Ty Madden, who opposed Tolle on Monday and turned in an impressive outing of his own: five innings, four hits, no earned runs and seven strikeouts in a no-decision. Madden has been effective in spot starts this season. The Tigers have lost four of their last six games overall. Boston has won five of its last seven, including the first two games of this series. The Red Sox won two of three in Detroit from April 17-19. Boston’s schedule after Wednesday includes a four-game home series against Tampa Bay beginning Thursday. Detroit travels to Kansas City for a three-game set starting Friday. A projected final score from Interstat’s game simulator gives Boston a 5-4 edge.
