MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. (Interstat) — The Miami Marlins host the Baltimore Orioles on Wednesday night at loanDepot Park, with rain in the forecast and both teams looking to bounce back from series-opening losses. Baltimore (15-20) aims to even the three-game set after a 7-6 win Tuesday. Right-hander Brandon Young (2-1) starts for the Orioles. Miami (16-19) counters with right-hander Eury Pérez (2-3). First pitch is scheduled for 6:40 p.m. EDT under cloudy skies with a temperature near 80 degrees Fahrenheit and rain expected. The Orioles arrive having lost 10 of their last 11 games, including a four-game sweep at New York and a 12-1 loss Monday to the Yankees. Baltimore’s offense has struggled, but the bullpen remains a concern. Left-hander Keegan Akin, a player to watch, has pitched in four of the Orioles’ past nine games. He hasn’t allowed an earned run in three of those appearances, covering 2 2/3 innings. However, he was battered for six earned runs on six hits in one inning during a 17-1 loss to Boston on April 25. The Marlins have lost three straight, all to Philadelphia, capped by a 1-0 defeat Monday. Miami’s pitching has kept games close. Right-hander Janson Junk, another player to watch, has been sharp. Over his past three starts, Junk has allowed one earned run over 16 1/3 innings, striking out 12. He worked 5 1/3 innings Monday against the Phillies, allowing one run on five hits with six strikeouts. Tuesday’s head-to-head saw Baltimore’s offense break through for seven runs on 11 hits. The projected total for Wednesday’s contest is 8.5 runs, with Miami listed as a 1.5-run favorite. The Interstat game simulator projects a 4-3 Marlins victory. Following Wednesday’s game, the teams meet again Thursday to conclude the brief two-game series. Baltimore then returns home for a 10-game homestand starting Friday against Oakland. Miami heads on the road for a 10-game trip beginning Friday against Washington.
