MIAMI (Interstat) — Interstat’s game simulator is projecting a 5-4 victory for the Miami Marlins over the Baltimore Orioles on Tuesday night at loanDepot Park, a matchup of two struggling teams still searching for traction early in the season. First pitch is scheduled for 6:40 p.m. EDT under a forecast of 75 degrees and rain. Baltimore (15-19) will send right-hander Sandy Alcantara (3-2) to the mound. He will face a Marlins offense that has sputtered recently, managing just one run in its past two games. Miami (16-19) had not named a probable starter as of Monday. The Orioles arrive in South Florida on a three-game losing streak, all to the New York Yankees. Baltimore was outscored 27-9 in that series, including an 11-3 loss Sunday in which starter Trey Gibson struggled. Gibson lasted just 4 2/3 innings, allowing four hits and three earned runs with two strikeouts. He is a player to watch in this series as he looks to rebound. Miami’s own recent slide continued Monday with a 1-0 loss to the Philadelphia Phillies. Right-hander Janson Junk was the hard-luck loser despite a strong outing: 5 1/3 innings, five hits, one earned run and six strikeouts. Junk has been Miami’s most consistent arm of late, posting a 0.82 ERA over his past two starts spanning 11 1/3 innings, and will be a key figure if he appears in relief during this series. The Marlins took three of four from Philadelphia to open this homestand before dropping the finale. They won two of three at the Los Angeles Dodgers last week. Baltimore has lost nine of its past 11 games overall. The Orioles’ lone bright spot in that stretch was a 10-3 win over Houston on April 30. These teams play again Wednesday and Thursday at loanDepot Park before Miami hits the road for a six-game trip to Minnesota and Tampa Bay. Baltimore returns home to host Oakland before a three-game series against the Yankees.
