PREVIEW: Guardians at Athletics WEST SACRAMENTO, Calif. (Interstat) — The Athletics host the Cleveland Guardians on Saturday evening at Sutter Health Park, with first pitch scheduled under cloudy skies and 78-degree temperatures. Oakland (17-14) enters the matchup with a one-game edge over Cleveland (16-16) in the early-season standings. The Athletics have won three of their last four, while the Guardians split a three-game series against Tampa Bay before a scoreless game Friday against the A’s. Cleveland’s probable pitcher is listed as either Slade Cecconi (0-4) or Jacob Lopez (2-1). Cecconi has struggled to a 0-4 record, while Lopez has posted two wins against one loss. The Guardians will rely on right-hander Gavin Williams, who has been dominant recently. Williams is 5-0 in his last five starts, including a victory Wednesday against Tampa Bay in which he threw 7 2/3 innings, allowing five hits and no earned runs with nine strikeouts. He also struck out 11 over seven innings against Baltimore on April 18 and fanned eight over 5 2/3 innings against Kansas City on April 7. For the Athletics, catcher Shea Langeliers has been a consistent offensive force. He went 3-for-4 with an RBI in Thursday’s 6-3 win over Kansas City and has recorded multiple hits in five of his last eight games. Langeliers has also homered twice in his past nine contests. The teams played to a scoreless game Friday, the most recent head-to-head meeting. Cleveland took the series finale against Tampa Bay 3-1 on Wednesday, with Williams earning the win and relievers Cade Smith and Erik Sabrowski combining for 1 1/3 scoreless innings. Oakland beat Kansas City 6-3 on Thursday, keyed by Langeliers’ three-hit performance and 2 2/3 scoreless innings from Luis Medina. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 6-4 Athletics victory. Oakland is installed as a -1.5 favorite, with the over/under set at 10 runs. The Guardians begin a four-game series at Kansas City on Monday, while the Athletics travel to Philadelphia for a three-game set starting Tuesday.
