CLEVELAND (Interstat) — The Tampa Bay Rays visit the Cleveland Guardians on Monday, April 27, at Progressive Field, with first pitch scheduled for 7:10 p.m. under clear skies and a temperature of 57 degrees. Tampa Bay (16-11) enters the game having won four of its last five, including a 4-2 victory over the Minnesota Twins on Sunday. The Rays will send left-hander Parker Messick (3-0, 0.00 ERA) to the mound. Messick has been sharp in his first four starts, allowing just one earned run over 22 innings. Cleveland (15-14) lost 4-2 at Toronto on Sunday, snapping a modest two-game winning streak. The Guardians had not announced a starting pitcher as of Sunday night. The Rays have been bolstered by a deep bullpen, particularly right-hander Griffin Jax. In his past eight appearances, Jax has posted a 2.13 ERA with 12 strikeouts in 10 1/3 innings, allowing only five hits. He earned the win Sunday against the Twins with 2 1/3 shutout innings. For Cleveland, right-hander Colin Holderman has been effective out of the bullpen. Over his past 10 outings, he has a 1.42 ERA with 14 strikeouts in 12 2/3 innings, holding opponents to a .163 batting average. The Guardians are listed as 1.5-run favorites, according to Interstat’s game simulator, which projects a 6-4 Rays victory. The over/under is set at 7.5 runs. Tampa Bay’s offense has been potent of late, averaging 5.8 runs over its past five games. Cleveland’s lineup has struggled, scoring three or fewer runs in three of its last four. The two teams will continue the series Tuesday and Wednesday before the Rays return home to face San Francisco on May 1. Cleveland travels to Oakland for a three-game series starting May 1.
