AP Sports Preview NEW YORK (Interstat) — The Colorado Rockies and New York Mets, both mired in early-season struggles, continue their three-game series Saturday afternoon at Citi Field. First pitch is scheduled for the evening under cloudy skies with temperatures near 60 degrees. The Rockies (10-16) have listed two possible starters for Saturday: left-hander Jose Quintana (0-2) or right-hander Kodai Senga (0-3). Both are searching for their first victory of 2026. The Mets (9-16) will counter with their own starter, looking to split the series after dropping Friday’s opener 4-1. Colorado enters having lost seven of its past 10 games but earned a much-needed win in the series opener Friday. Outfielder Mickey Moniak has been the Rockies’ most productive hitter recently, going 4-for-5 with two home runs and two RBIs in Thursday’s 10-8 loss to San Diego. Over his past 11 games, Moniak has four homers and seven RBIs, including a 2-for-5, one-homer effort April 19 against the Los Angeles Dodgers. The Mets rallied for a 10-8 victory over Minnesota on Thursday, snapping a four-game losing streak. Third baseman Brett Baty went 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs in that win. Baty has hits in three of his past four games, though he had been mired in an 0-for-15 slump prior to the Minnesota series. Friday’s head-to-head result marked the Rockies’ second consecutive victory over the Mets dating to last season. Colorado’s win Friday featured solid pitching after the bullpen allowed 10 runs in Thursday’s loss. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 3-2 Colorado victory. The Mets are installed as pregame favorites at minus-1.5 on the run line. The over-under is 8.5 total runs. For the Rockies, consistency remains elusive. They have alternated wins and losses over their past five games. The offense has shown power — Moniak, TJ Rumfield and Troy Johnston each drove in two runs in Thursday’s loss — but the pitching staff continues to struggle, allowing eight or more runs in three of the past seven contests. The Mets have lost eight of their past 11 games, with the offense largely stagnant outside of Thursday’s outburst. The pitching staff has shown flashes, including David Peterson’s 3.1-inning relief appearance Thursday in which he allowed one earned run on four hits with two strikeouts. Following Saturday’s contest, the teams conclude the series Sunday afternoon. Colorado then travels to Cincinnati for a three-game set beginning Tuesday, while the Mets host Washington for three games starting Tuesday. The teams will meet again May 4-6 in Denver.
