SEATTLE (Interstat) — The Toronto Tempo will try to complete a season sweep of the Seattle Storm when the WNBA teams meet Wednesday night at Key Arena. Toronto (11-26) defeated Seattle twice earlier this season, winning 93-72 on May 30 and 86-73 on May 13. The Tempo, however, have lost four of their last five games. Their most recent outing was an 88-78 loss to the Las Vegas Aces on Aug. 23. Kia Nurse led Toronto in that game with 19 points, four rebounds and four assists in 30 minutes. Nurse has been productive but inconsistent recently, logging 19 points against Las Vegas, five points against Portland on Aug. 21, nine against Washington, eight against Indiana and 16 against Dallas on Aug. 12. Seattle (7-31) owns the league’s worst record. The Storm also lost their last game, falling 92-70 at Dallas on Aug. 23. Flau’jae Johnson was Seattle’s top scorer that day with 23 points, six rebounds and two assists. The guard has scored 23, five, eight, 11, 25 and nine points in her past six games, showing the scoring pop that makes her a player to watch. Both teams have dealt with inconsistent play and lopsided defeats. Toronto’s schedule does not get easier, as the Tempo play at Las Vegas on Friday and at Phoenix on Saturday. Seattle returns home to face Los Angeles on Aug. 30. Interstat’s game simulator projects a 96-94 Toronto win, but oddsmakers have installed Seattle as a 3.5-point favorite. The over/under is 177.5 total points. That gap reflects the unpredictability of a matchup between two teams near the bottom of the standings. Seattle’s defense will need to limit Nurse, who has reached double figures in two of her past five games. Johnson, coming off a 23-point performance, will try to spark a Storm offense that has often struggled to keep pace. Toronto won both prior meetings by double digits, but Seattle will be playing at home with the spread in its favor. Wednesday’s game is the first of a quick road trip for Toronto, which plays three games in four days. The Storm, meanwhile, are looking for only their eighth win of the season.
