PORTLAND, Ore. (Interstat) — The Toronto Tempo visit the Portland Fire on Thursday night at Moda Center in a matchup of WNBA teams looking to reverse recent slides. Toronto enters at 10-19, while Portland is 11-19. Both have lost at least five straight. The Fire have dropped five in a row, and the Tempo have lost six consecutive. Portland won the only previous meeting this season, beating Toronto 99-80 on May 23 in Toronto. Toronto is coming off a 96-79 loss at Golden State on Sunday. In that game, forward Nyara Sabally had 19 points and eight rebounds. Kiki Rice scored 16 points, and Julie Allemand added 11 points and six assists. Sabally has been one of Toronto’s most consistent producers. In her last five games, she scored in double figures each time, including 19 points against Golden State, 16 against Atlanta and 13 against both Washington and New York. She also grabbed eight rebounds against Golden State and seven against New York. Portland is coming off a 106-101 home loss to Los Angeles on Sunday. Bridget Carleton led the Fire with 24 points and 11 rebounds. Carla Leite added 21 points and eight assists, and Megan DiLeo had 19 points and eight rebounds. Carleton has been especially productive. Over her last five games, she surpassed 20 points three times, with 26 against Indiana, 24 against Los Angeles and 22 against Minnesota. She also had 11 rebounds against Los Angeles and eight against Minnesota. In Portland’s May victory over Toronto, Carleton was a key part of a balanced effort. The Fire have played tightly contested games recently, with losses to Los Angeles, Indiana, Dallas and Minnesota by margins of five, 14, four and eight points. Toronto has struggled defensively, allowing 100 or more points in four of its last five games. Portland’s upcoming schedule includes a home game against Seattle on Saturday, while Toronto travels to Atlanta on Monday. The teams will meet again Aug. 21 in Toronto.
