TORONTO (Interstat) — The Las Vegas Aces aim to halt a two-game skid when they visit the Toronto Tempo on Monday at Coca Cola Coliseum. Las Vegas (17-7) enters having lost consecutive games for the first time this season, most recently a 109-75 defeat at Indiana on July 12. The Aces were outscored 59-38 in the second half and allowed the Fever to shoot 55.7% from the field. Chelsea Gray contributed nine points and six assists in the loss, while Jackie Young added 15 points. Toronto (10-15) has dropped four of its last five, including a 111-92 loss to Atlanta on July 17. The Tempo surrendered 37 points in the third quarter and allowed the Dream to shoot 56.5% overall. Julie Allemand recorded nine points, five rebounds and six assists for Toronto in the defeat. Players to watch A’ja Wilson leads the Aces and has posted dominant numbers over her past seven games. The reigning MVP averaged 24.3 points, 11.3 rebounds and 2.4 assists during that stretch, including four games with at least 30 points and three with 15 or more rebounds. Wilson scored 32 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in a win over Portland on July 9, then followed with 21 points and 15 boards against Phoenix on July 11. She finished with 20 points and 12 rebounds in the loss to Indiana. Marina Mabrey has been Toronto’s most consistent scorer. She has reached at least 26 points in three of her last four appearances, including a 34-point outing against Dallas on July 10. Mabrey’s season high came June 25 when she poured in 53 points on 18-of-28 shooting against Los Angeles. She finished with 26 points, four rebounds and three assists in the loss to Atlanta. Series implications The Aces sit second in the overall standings, two games behind the first-place New York Liberty. Las Vegas is 9-3 on the road this season. Toronto is tied for eighth place in the league, one game behind the final playoff spot. The Tempo are 5-8 at home. After Monday’s contest, Las Vegas travels to Washington for a two-game set beginning Tuesday. Toronto visits Minnesota for three consecutive games starting July 26.
