WNBA: New York Liberty at Toronto Tempo TORONTO (Interstat) — The New York Liberty visit the Toronto Tempo on Sunday in a WNBA matchup that pits a playoff contender against a struggling upstart at Coca Cola Coliseum. New York (13-10) enters on a two-game losing skid after falling 90-85 at Minnesota on Saturday. The Liberty have dropped five of their last seven. Toronto (9-13) has lost four straight, including a 108-95 home defeat to Dallas on Friday. The Liberty took the only previous meeting this season, beating Toronto 97-82 on June 3 in New York. Sabrina Ionescu, New York’s All-Star guard, leads the Liberty’s attack. In Saturday’s loss, she logged 35 minutes, scoring 25 points with eight rebounds and five assists. Over her last five games, Ionescu has averaged 15.8 points, 3.6 rebounds and 4.6 assists (Interstat) — though she has shot below 40% in three of those contests. Jonquel Jones chipped in 15 points and 12 rebounds against Minnesota, while Breanna Stewart added 17 points, seven boards and three assists. For Toronto, guard Marina Mabrey has been the focal point. She erupted for a season-high 53 points on 18-of-28 shooting in a 125-97 win over Los Angeles on June 25. In Friday’s loss to Dallas, Mabrey scored 34 points with one rebound and one assist in 27 minutes. Over her previous four games, she averaged 28.5 points on 50% shooting from the field, including 42.3% on 3-point attempts. The Tempo have struggled defensively, allowing 102.8 points per game over their last four (Interstat) — all losses. Toronto forward Laura Juskaite contributed 25 points and three rebounds against Dallas, and Isabelle Harrison added 18 points and eight boards. New York ranks seventh in the league in scoring offense (83.2 points per game) but has yielded an average of 89.2 in its last five outings. The Liberty’s next 10 games include a stretch of three straight against the Los Angeles Sparks later this month. Toronto’s upcoming schedule features three consecutive meetings with the Minnesota Lynx starting July 26. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m. ET.
